Model (practice)

This model of practice is based on the theoretical concepts relating to the child, environment, task, and the interaction among these key factors and the child’s participation in different occupations. A goodness-of-fit of those factors is necessary for successful participation in occupations.

This model comprises of four components including Assistive Computer Technology (ACT) service delivery (evaluation and training), the provision of ACT devices, education, and coordination and collaboration. ACT service delivery includes evaluation, training, and coordination of technology services. A service delivery team includes an occupational therapist, computer specialist, education specialist, and augmentative communication specialist. The team is responsible for conducting assessment and providing training for students who are in needs.

This model is a service delivery model that aims to provide a framework for occupational therapists to design and evaluate services for people living with HIV. It focuses on designing and evaluating interventions that target outcomes in activity and social participation. It comprises of the following components, prominent features of living with HIV, service delivery principles, promising interventions, and person-environment interactions across micro, meso, and macro levels of the environment.

This model comprises the complexity and multi-dimensionality of the relation between persons with motor disabilities and their environment. It addresses the personalized accessibility (i.e., unique needs of a person living in a specific environment that is central to this person). It defines the relationship of the person-environment interaction using six concepts, they are:

The Vona du Toit Model of Creative Ability (VdTMoCA) (Van der Reyden et al. 2019) is founded on the theory of creative ability developed by South African Occupational Therapist, Vona du Toit (du Toit, 1974).   This model's unique contribution to the Occupational Therapy profession is understanding people in terms of sequential levels of creative ability. The term creative refers to one's ability to change in response to life‘s demands (the creation of oneself), as well as creation of tangible things and solutions to problems.

The four-stage model for prevention program aims to structure prevention program for workers with musculoskeletal disorders, and to facilitate the workers in learning correct movement patterns, based on principles of model learning and ergonomics. 

This model aims to facilitate occupational therapists in accessing clients’ mind as an instrumental tool for occupational functioning and adaptation to the environment. It consists of three phases across 10 steps.

The Intentional Relationship Model (IRM) aims to facilitate practitioners in understanding the impact of therapeutic use of self and to provide useful approaches for maximizing the positive power of the social environment in order to facilitate occupational engagement. Therapeutic relationships comprise of an interaction between client, therapist, desired occupation, and interpersonal events that occur during the interaction.

This model aims to guide occupational therapists in decision-making with the elderly who have cognitive impairment to continued community living. Client-defined decision-making processes are suitable for non-cognitively impaired, non-dependent people, while negotiated decision-making processes are suitable for clients with cognitive impairment, dependent on others/putting others at risk.

This model is a developmental model of three basic dimensions of self: biological self (starting when an infant first feels the need for food and warmth), social self (starting when an infant begins to perceive persons other than self), and temporal self (starting when an adolescence’s thoughts and aspirations for the future begin to motivate thinking and behavior).
