Model of Children’s Active Travel (M-CAT)

  • The Model of Children’s Active Travel (M-CAT) addresses factors that influence parents’ or children’s decision making on the children’s active travel using a simple and comprehensive approach. Active travel is, by walking or riding bicycle, travelling between local destinations, such as school or park. The factors impact decision-making process of the parents and the child of active travel consist of: (1) objective element of the child, parents, family and environment, (2) perceptions of the parents and child around these objective elements, and (3) outcome. Object elements are stable, objective elements of the environment (physical, economic, political-social-cultural), and objective characteristics of the child (e.g., gender, age, previous active travel experience), parents (e.g., marital status, income, job demands), and family (e.g., family size, active travel abilities of any siblings). Perception elements depict the parents’ and the child’s perceptions of the environment and of each other in the context of the individual’s parents, child and family characteristics. The parent’s and children’s attitudes, values and beliefs are also involved in the process. In other words, the parent’s perceptions on the characteristic of environment, and the child’s own attitude, beliefs and values regarding active travel, influences the decision-making process. The outcome elements are their decisions regarding active travel and the child’s engagement, and the occurring events during active travel trips. By using this model, therapists examine variables that influencing a child’s active travel, and plan school- or community-level interventions to promote active travel choices.

A Model of Children’s Play

  • This model aims to conceptualize children’s underlying skills and behavioral elements characteristic of play, as well as the influences that both individual and environmental factors. Embedded in the play environment and cultural and familial milieu, this model includes developmental play capacities (cognitive, physical and social play skills) and individual play style (internal control, freedom to suspend reality and intrinsic motivation) that make up the child’s contribution to the play transaction.   • The Model of Playfulness suggests that playfulness can be determined within any transaction of the evaluation of three elements, each of which can be represented as a continuum. Infant Space Theory

  • The Infant Space Theory describes four primary aspects of how infants develop interactions with objects and space in their home environment. The first aspect is through gaze and visual play. Between 2 to 6 months, the emergence of gaze path, gaze search, and gaze alignment allows infants to use gaze path to search, scan for their mother and objects, and to align and direct gaze. They explore out-of-reach objects like moving contrasts and aircrafts, through vision.

Occupation-specific Community Development Model for Family Mental Health

  • This model consists of a continuum with five steps, each facilitating change for subsequent stages of mental health in families that are socially isolated. The five steps are (1) developmental casework, (2) mutual support, (3) coalitions of mutual interest, (4) pro-active community participation, and (5) social movements. Development casework is an individual therapy focusing on occupational behavior and role acquisition through participating in daily activities.

Clinical reasoning process underlying teaching transfer skills: An integrative framework

  • This integrative framework mainly consists of two elements: (1) the factors influencing clinical reasoning (CR), and (2) the evolving CR process underlying the choice of teaching strategies. First, both internal factors (relate to occupational therapists, such as knowledge and experience, personal habits) and external factors (relate to client, environment, task, and interaction of them, such as emotional/cognitive/physical availability, previous knowledge) influence CR of therapists.
